Skinny Classic Margarita

This skinny version of the classic margarita will become your go-to drink!

The traditional margarita can be very high in both sugar and calories. A small one may be okay once in awhile, but a large or a jumbo size can really do some damage if you’re watching your nutrition.

I wanted to create a margarita that I could drink, while I was following any nutrition plan. Enter, this skinny version of a margarita! The only calories in this are from the tequila. You can certainly salt the rim, but not adding salt keeps it fairly sodium free!

Start with a good quality tequila that you like. It doesn’t have to be something expensive like Patron. Find a moderately priced silver or reposado.

The key to this drink is to use a sparkling water that adds a little sweetness. I use the grocery store brand flavored water, not something like La Croix or Bubly. Those are both excellent waters on their own (and make a mean drink!) but I like the sweetness that the artificial waters provide. This adds the sweetness without adding any sugars to your drink. Be sure to find one that has zero calories and zero sugar.

Finally, the squeeze of lime brings this drink together, and really gives it that traditional margarita flavor. You can add other fruits to the drink, like orange, strawberry, or blueberry, but always be sure to include the lime juice!
