Why ‘Margaritas and Meal Prep?’

Hello!  I’m Heather!

I am a wife, teacher, lover of God, fitness, and travel, but more importantly for you, I LOVE FOOD.  😉

And because of this love for food, I have always struggled with my weight.  I was a little overweight growing up and that followed me on into life.  I cannot remember a time when I was happy with how I looked.  I was never comfortable in my own skin.  I had ZERO self-confidence.

When I started college, I began my quest to lose the weight.  I tried every diet out there.  I took diet pills.  I worked out.  I starved myself.  Nothing worked for very long, but I did this for YEARS.  I rode the diet ‘roller coaster’ for what seems like half my life.

5 years ago, things started to change for me!  I began a regular routine of working out.  I started eating better, little by little.  I started meal prepping as a way to stay on track. I worked on my mindset and figured out WHY I had to do better for myself.  And things changed!  The weight began to come off and stay off.  I began to WANT to eat better because I FELT better!

Now that I’ve found success, I want to share everything I’ve learned with YOU!

What is Meal Prep?

Meal prep is an easy way to stay on track with any nutrition plan.  You chose your meals for the week, prep them ahead of time (I like Sundays), then portion the meals into containers so they are ready to go for each day.   You have exactly what and how much of each food ready and waiting for each meal!

I began meal prepping a few years back as a way to stay on track with my eating.  I love meal prepping for the simple fact that it keeps me on track.  My meals are planned out ahead of time.  I make the meals in one big batch.  Then the food is made and ready to go.  I have no choice but to eat it!

Amazing!  Excellent!  Let’s do it!  But wait… what do I do when I go out to eat with friends or family?  I can’t just take my meal container with me..?   I can of course, but that’s no fun…

Why Margaritas?

I’ve always been one for a restaurant margarita. (On the rocks, with salt please!) But my real love for margaritas began when my husband and I went to Mexico for our honeymoon.  I got my first taste of a real, authentic margarita.  I had one and I was hooked.  My husband too.  We then spent a good chunk of our trip grilling our bartenders for their favorite tequilas, took a class to learn about types of tequilas, and then tried every different tequila we could find.  (Nerds!)  When we came home, my new drink of choice was the margarita.  The fresh, top-shelf, shaken over ice kind.  My new dilemma then became- HOW on earth will that fit into my lifestyle?!    I can’t just drink a sugary margarita a few times a week…?

Finding a Balance

When I returned home from our honeymoon, I made the decision- my life will be about balance.  I had eaten so strictly for months leading up to our wedding.  I even stayed on my eating plan for some of the events leading up to it and I felt like I missed out a bit.  I wasn’t going to do that anymore!  I would enjoy the foods and drinks I want, I would enjoy them in moderation, but I would still be in the physical shape I envisioned for myself.

And I have!  There is a way!

This blog was created to show other women how to do the same thing!  It doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing, diet or no-diet, starving or splurging.  There is a way to live a healthy balance and this blog will show you how to do just that!

Welcome to my blog! 🙂
